DSBC is aiming to portray African and Caribbean people in a new, positive and empowered light via entertainment as theatre, magazine, drama, music etc. and Media.
DBC (Daughters of the black Continent) was first funded in 1998 as a branch of a charity called kairos-jeunesse. Miriam Depasse, Jaqueline Ngoya and Christine Rugurika produced the play ‘Cinderella or the African Fever’ for 4 shows (3 in Brussels and 1 in Paris).
In 2004, Christine Rugurika decided to change DBC in DSBC (The Daughters & Sons of the Black Continent) and pursue the ‘Cinderella’ project in London, where she was residing. As a sole trader and in collaboration with PartnersComm, she produced the show ‘Cinderella under the African & Caribbean Fever’ for 13 dates in London (oh Art / Oxford HOuse, the Albany, the Space).
In 2005, DSBC co-produced talk / news shows (in French & English) on Voice of Africa Radio with Anthony Everest, Horrace Parry Junior & the Ebony Angels And in October 2007, co-produced a radio show ‘Africa Jam’, presented by the Ebony Angels
From February, Kayisha will be back with a special great concept show on the radio and with occasional blind date with one of the Ebony Angels (Chochoe).
In 2007, DSBC is developing a new project, a story-picture called ‘BREACH’, that has been published as a small booklet and after put on a website to see what would be the response to the story, concept etc.
After various positive feedbacks and requests of putting the ‘Breach’ story on a TV soap format, you can watch the trailer here. the Pilot will be out soon, then a stage play will take place on Sat 29th January 2011 at the Albany for one night only!!
